| What is DWiNCE? |
| DWiNCE or Dot11 Wireless Network Client Emulator
tests 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi Access Point (AP) by emulating different client
behaviour to enable enterprises, wireless ISPs, and device
manufacturers to verify the various capabilities of Wi-Fi devices in
the network. It can emulate multiple WLAN clients each with unique MAC
and IP address. You can configure DWiNCE to emulate upto 256 clients.
Most of the Access Points can associate only upto 64 clients. A load of
10 clients per AP is considered typical field scenario. So, it is
recommended to configure your test case for at least 10 clients. Most
of the APs are designed to handle about 30 clients efficiently. So, in
a typical test run, it is recommended to configure your test cases for
at least 30 emulated clients. |

| Do I need a special hardware to use DWiNCE? |
All you need a computer with an Ethernet
interface and running Windows 2000 SP4 or Windows XP SP1 or later and a
compatible wireless adapter. You must install a special driver for your
adapter. This driver comes with DWiNCE. If your 802.11g or 802.11a/b/g
CardBus or PCI card is based on the Atheros AR5001, AR5002 or AR5004
chipset, it is very likely that your card will work with this driver.
For a list of cards using Atheros chipset please visit http://customerproducts.atheros.com/customerproducts/
The number of commercially available wireless adapters using these
chipsets is quite large. We have tested a representative sample of
these adapters. If you know your card is based on one of these Atheros
chipset and still does not work pleased email the details to support@kardea.com.
We have tested the following cards with DWiNCE:
| |
 |
Netgear 108 Mbps Wireless PC Card (WG511T) |
| |
 |
D-Link AirPlus XtremeG Wireless 108G Notebook Adapter
(DWL-G650) |
| |
 |
Cisco Aironet 802.11a/b/g Wireless LAN Client Adapter (CB21AG)
on XP only |
We have identified the following cards as being not compatible with DWiNCE:
| |
 |
3Com 11a/b/g PC Card with XJACK® Antenna (3CRPAG175) |

| Can I have 2 or more wireless adaptors in my computer? |
| You can have only 1 adaptor on a computer for
DWiNCE Test Executor. If you want to use a 2nd wireless adapter for
normal wireless communication purpose, it's highly recommended that the
second adapter be based on a non Atheros chipset, because if you use
two Atheros-based adapters, one of them will not be operational. |

| My
firewall software warns me that DWiNCE is "attempting to access the
Internet." Why does DWiNCE "attempt to access the Internet"? |
| DWiNCE has two components, a Test Executor and a
Test Editor. They communicate using TCP/IP. Please configure your
firewall to allow DWiNCE to communicate on port 6000. |

| |
| Will DWiNCE run on 64-bit operating system? |
| DWiNCE will load and run on 64 bit operating
systems in 32-bit compatibility mode and supports AMD and Intel x86
processors including the 64 bit capable Pentium and Xeon processors. |

| My Test Editor and Test Executor are not able to communicate? |
Run one or more of the following diagnostic steps to correct the issue:
| |
 |
Ping the machines, running the
DWiNCE Test Editor and Test Executor, to each other. If ping fails from
any end, check the network connectivity between the two computers. Make
sure the Ethernet adaptor is not firewalled or is configured to allow
pings. If after changing the firewall configuration ping the machines
again. If pings are successful. Configure the firewall to allow DWiNCE
application to communicate on TCP port 6000. |
| |
 |
If you are using an external firewall, please configure it to allow DWiNCE application to communicate on TCP port 6000. |
| |
 |
On DWiNCE Editor Menu, check
Edit>Options>Configure and make sure that the IP address of test
executor is correctly entered. |
| |
 |
Make sure the Test Executor is
started and you see the following message in the window “ Got
DWiNCE Driver Handle”, “DWiNCE Executor is Started.”.
If you don’t see this please Start/Halt the executor a couple of
times. If you still don’t see this, try yanking the wireless card
from the computer and put it in. Finally, if nothing works, try
rebooting the computer and start the test executor again. |

| Does DWiNCE measure any performance parameters? |
| Currently DWiNCE displays only round trip delay for pings. In future releases some 802.11 values like association
time may be included. DWiNCE will be focused on providing features that can help users test WLAN functions more efficiently
in a typical scenario of 25-30 clients.
